Montenegro’s mountainous 300km of rugged coastline is becoming popular among those looking to explore the Adriatic beyond Croatia. The country boasts the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Perast and Kotor, an impressive Venetian fortress with a steep hike and fantastic view across the bay. Discover Herceg Novi’s 14th century old town or Dobrec’s pebble beach, which is only accessible by boat. At Budva enjoy a party atmosphere at Ploce beach, or go for an early morning swim at Mogren beach to avoid the crowds. Hop to the island of Katič for diving, explore the fort on Mamula, or find isolation at uninhabited Stari Ulcinj.

The time difference in Montenegro is Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) +2 hours. US and UK citizens can stay in the country for up to 90 days without a visa. Talk to us to make sure you have the correct documents before you travel.
Passports valid for 3 months beyond the date of departure are required for American, Australian, English and Canadian travelers, but no visa is required for stays under 90 days.
Although it’s not yet a member of the Schengen area, Montenegro allows EU nationals to enter the country with a valid national identity card (no passport or visa required). Australian, Canadian and U.S. citizens must have a return ticket in their possession upon entering Montenegro.
US citizens who have traveled outside of the US for at least 48 hours are allowed to bring back, once every 30 days, $800-worth of goods per person duty-free, including one bottle of wine or spirits. A flat duty rate is charged on the next $1,000 worth of purchases. Keep your proof of purchase.
The currency is Euros. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted but smaller establishments, especially in rural locations, may only accept cash. ATMs are easily found in main towns and resorts. Banks are open Monday to Friday (8:00am to 8:00pm) and Saturday (8:00am to 3pm).
Getting online is easy in major towns with plenty of Wi-Fi spots across independent cafes and restaurants, but coverage is patchy in the mountains and across remote areas.

Temperatures in Montenegro are Mediterranean on the coast and cooler in the mountains. During the peak summer season, there is a hot, dry climate around 27ºC/80ºF.
Sailing conditions in this region are fantastic for all levels of charter experience with typical Mediterranean moderate winds and warm climate. The weather is stable with a light breeze in summer. The cold, dry and gusty Bura wind is from the north east and is common between November and March. The south easterly Jugo is moderate and blows from the sea to the coast.
